Work Placement Module
The department offers a work placement module in year 2, which is core for BA Film & TV Studies students, and available as an option for joint honours and Media & Communication students.
The module introduces students to all different areas of the working in the film and television industries, with a weekly programme of guest speakers, including producers, directors, editors, researchers, writers, sound editors and foley artists. Students are supported to find a placement, lasting between 5 and 15 working days, in a huge variety of companies and organisations, from small independent companies, to large international broadcasters.
Students on all degree schemes in Theatre, Film & Television Studies are encouraged to undertake placements related to their interests, with dedicated support available in the department, and through our advisor in the Careers Service, Jo Hiatt. We also work closely with companies working in the Aberystwyth area; for example, we have a close relationship with Fiction Factory, and have offered over 50 placements on the first two seasons of Y Gwyll/Hinterland.
There are a great many possibilities open to graduates, probably more than you realise at first. Sometimes, the hardest task facing finalists and new graduates is deciding how to choose from the many options available to you. There are jobs which are directly related to degree disciplines, jobs where particular subjects may be useful and also a whole range of jobs open to graduates of any discipline.
