Attending an Open Day

To get the most out of your Open Day visit, we advise you to plan the day out in advance and to book your place online, before arriving.

Open Day activities typically start at 9.00am and most departments will close at around 4.00pm.

The precise timings of your Open Day will be outlined in your Open Day programme, which will be sent to you closer to the date. Depending on your subject of choice, your timetable may well include: talks about your subject, tours of the facilities on campus, taster workshops and other activities.


Finding us is easy, no matter what mode of transport you decide to use. We have Free Parking if you come by car. If you decide to come by train we will have shuttle buses waiting at the station, ready to transfer you up to our main Penglais campus. Alternatively, adjacent to the Railway Station is a Taxi Rank. Or, on foot, the walk to Penglais Campus takes approximately 20 minutes. There will also be a free bus service to take you to all locations around the University and town. Parking on Campus

During an Open Day there will be specific parking signage for you to follow. We will also have University staff directing visitors to car parking spaces.

If you are visiting us during other times or events, please visit the Porter's Lodge to request a visitor's parking permit. The Porter’s Lodge is the first building on the left-hand side as you arrive on Penglais Campus. University staff will be able to direct you to the car parking spaces available on the day.

Once You’ve Parked

On arrival we advise that you make your way to our Welcome/Information Desks – located in the Arts Centre. Here, you’ll be able to collect Guides, Maps and Bus Timetables; and speak to staff regarding the Open Day.

Please note: Departments will require you to register with them as part of your visit. You can visit your academic department at any point during the day.

Places to Eat

We have plenty of places on campus where you can enjoy lunch, a snack or a cup of tea and cake. Details of our restaurants on campus will be in your Open Day programme. There are also restaurants, cafés and bars in the town offering a wide range of choices. Going to town is a great choice if you’d like to explore Aberystwyth a little more too.


There are plenty of B&B, Guest Houses and Hotel accommodation in and around Aberystwyth.

The Open Day programme will have everything you need to know about coming to our Open Days. We will e-mail an electronic copy of the Open Day programme to you before the event, and you’ll also receive a copy in the post providing you have registered more than a week in advance (UK/EU only). Viewing the programme which will give you an idea of what to expect on the day.
