Applicant Visiting Days - Latest Information

Updated 16/03/2020

We are sorry to announce that Aberystwyth University’s Applicant Visiting Days scheduled for Saturday 21st and Saturday 28th March are cancelled.  This decision has been made due to the rapidly changing situation around the global Coronavirus outbreak.

With the cancellation of our Visiting Days we are aware you will have a number of queries - we have put together a short series of FAQs as a starting point to signpost you to useful information.

Do I need to contact the academic department I had booked to visit ?

Colleagues in our academic department(s) will be happy to answer any queries you may have, however, unless there is something specific you wish to ask, there is no requirement for you to contact us directly at this point -  we’ll keep in touch with you.

We will keep all our applicants informed of opportunities to discover more about living and studying at Aberystwyth, however, you are very welcome to drop us a line in the interim if there are particular questions you would like answered.

For any general queries, our central team will be happy to reply or alternatively will ask colleagues in our academic and/or service departments to respond to you directly.

As an applicant what other opportunities are there for me to find out more about Aberystwyth University and the course(s) I have applied for?

As an alternative to visiting us in person, you may be interested in the below opportunities.

Live Chat Events

We have a series of live chat events running over the coming weeks.  These are a great opportunity to ask any queries you may have about student life here at Aberystwyth.    The dates and times can be seen online at: www.aber.ac.uk/live-chat and we will send you reminders about these via email.

Online Open Day – Tuesday 5th May 6.00pm – 8.00pm

Our Online Open Day provides an opportunity to view video presentations and ‘live chat’ with representatives from academic departments, and staff from other teams including Accommodation and Student Support Services.  You log into this event remotely from wherever you are based and will receive details of how to do this when you register.  You can also get the student perspective on living and studying at Aberystwyth from our Students’ Union and UMCA representatives and our Student Ambassadors.  We will send you an invite for this event, however, you can also register directly online at: www.aber.ac.uk/ood

Speaking directly with a member of staff

If you would like to speak with a member of academic staff about our courses and the department you have applied to study at in more detail, we would be happy to arrange for this.  Please drop a line to enquiries@aber.ac.uk and we will be in touch to make the necessary arrangements.

Taking a Virtual Tour of our Campus

Our virtual tour will give you an insight into our campus, including our student accommodation and facilities . Discover Aberystwyth University through our Virtual Tour here.

Asking questions through The Student Room Forum

Will the University still contribute towards pre-booked, non refundable travel costs for applicants, who had registered to attend the Visiting Day on 21st or 28th March ?

When inviting applicants to attend one of our Visiting Days, we offered a contribution towards applicant visiting expenses, on a capped tiered basis, based on the travel distance from the applicant’s home address to our Penglais Campus.

We appreciate that some of our applicants will have made travel and accommodation plans significantly in advance of their visit to Aberystwyth for the Applicant Visiting Day on either the 21st or 28th March and as such may have pre-booked, non refundable travel or accommodation arrangements in place.

All applicants who had booked to visit on the 21st or 28th March will receive an email confirming the cancellation of this event.  Included in this email will be guidance regarding the terms and conditions to request a contribution towards pre-booked, non refundable travel costs incurred by the applicant.  Please note that this goodwill gesture relates specifically to these two named events (21st and 28th March Visiting Days) and does not apply more widely to events organised by Aberystwyth University.

If you have any queries relating to this, please contact our central enquiry service: enquiries@aber.ac.uk  / 01970 622065

Where can I find out more information about the approach the University is taking to Coronavirus?

The University’s Coronavirus page is regularly updated with the latest advice and contains an FAQ section (www.aber.ac.uk/coronafeirws | www.aber.ac.uk/coronavirus).

We’ll keep applicants informed of opportunities to discover more about living and studying at Aberystwyth, however, you are very welcome to contact us in the interim if there are particular questions you would like answered.
