This module aims to provide the student with:
A detailed understanding of digestive anatomy and an understanding of nutritional requirements for a range of production categories. The process of ration formulation will be studied and an awareness of the latest research into equine nutrition will be expected.
On completion of this module, the student will be able to:
Syllabus / Curriculum design
This module will be presented as a lecture course with 2 practical sessions to complement the lecture material. A visit to a Feed Company will give students an awareness of the practical applications of ration formulation and vitamin and mineral availabilities in a range of feed supplements.
Content: Description of nutritional requirements for maintaining growth and work. Diet composition, nutritive value of roughages, concentrates and fats. Mineral and Vitamin requirements and availability. Current developments = nutritional research.
