Learning outcomes

On completion of this module, students will be able to

demonstrate knowledge of a number of key contemporary debates in Human Geography

form an individual understanding and position on these debates, and their relevance to their own role within the discipline

articulate these knowledges and positions within a small group discussion environment which contains both postgraduates and members of teaching and research staff

understand the importance of discussions of research in the development of a community of researchers

have developed a range of skills in reading, notetaking, critical reflection, summarising, taking part in small group discussions and connecting individual readings to wider issues.

Brief description

The aim of this elective module is to familiarise postgraduate students with the key contemporary contributions to research which are being made in Human Geography. It is constructed around reading-based discussion and seminar groups. Students will be encouraged to engage with literature that is appropriate to their general area of research, and with links made between Human Geography and other cognate disciplines.
