Learning outcomes

Typically, upon completion of this module, students will be able to:
-command the basic terminology of film studies in terms of how films are put together in order for meaning to be created;
-generate theoretical applications of some basic film theories which film-makers use in order to intentionally create menaing in their films.

Aims

-To develop a cache of analytical terms which film-makers utilise in order for their films to make cognitive sense, including image, mise-en-scene, editing, the star system, genre, and sound;
-To begin to develop a critical awareness of some of the facets of constructed meanings including a consideration of genres, gender and racial representation.
