Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
Students should feel they have a good, deatiled knowledge of the development of German culture between 1918-1945. They should have further developed their skills as critical readers of culture, and those students who wish to go on with their studies should feel that they have a solid foundation for postgraduate research.

Brief description
This course will examine a range of cultural texts and artefacts in order to introduce students to the development of German society between 1918-1945. Through the prism of literature, film and linguistics, students will explore the aftermath of the First World War, the rise and fall of the Weimar Republic and the Nazi period. In so doing studnets will not only gain a detailed knowledge of the politics and culture of the period, but also increase their competence as critical 'readers' of culture.
