On completion of this module, students should have attained a knowledge of events in Spain since the transition to democracy in 1975 and will also have applied this knowledge to their study and understanding of current affairs. Students will be encouraged to develop their own perspectives on relevant issues and contribute their ideas, in Spanish, accordingly. Students will have been able to use this course as a forum for expression and debate in the target language and will have developed confidence and fluency in discussing current affairs and many of the most relevant and controversial asepcts of contemporary Spain.
This module, conducted in Spanish, offers a thematic exploration of current affairs in contemporary Spain. The twelve themes present a variety of perspectives on social, political and cultural issues. Introductory lectures provide a background of information and will guid students towards an investigation of breaking news. They will be expected to contribute extensively to the seminars and debates which will also be conducted in Spanish.
