Brief description

The module has been designed to meet the changing roles of qualified librarians working in school libraries, School Library Services and in Children's and Young People's departments of the public library service. Since the centrality of the role of libraries in the education process has gained wider acceptance, the need for professional librarians working in these areas to understand and be informed about educational issues has increased, in order for them to play a more active role in curriculum planning, information skills teaching as well as the more traditional role of supporting the development of literacy. Other areas that require exploration at an advanced level include the effects of social and technological changes on children's needs and interests, theories of reading and current publishing trends. The modules will also offer advanced study of important areas of management such as planning the space resource, resource management and the management of collections.
