Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
To demonstrate a clear, critical understanding of theatre practice in India

To apply critically methodology and vocabulary relevant to issues of discussion regarding Indian theatre

To relate critically their direct experience of Indian performance to the theories discussed

Aims

To give students the opportunity of studying the theatre of India   
To examine appropriate methodologies and vocabulary relating to relevant theories and practices of Indian theatre;
To give students the opportunity of gaining direct experience of Indian theatre through workshops with an Indian performer

Brief description

The module provides an introduction to Indian theatre'rts origins, and its varied manifestations over the centuries until today. Students will have at least one workshop with an Indian performer as part of their learning experience.
