Semester Assessment Assessed participation and individual contribution to semester I practical work. This work will be assessed against the following criteria: - Contribution: attendance, punctuality, engagement and proactive involvement - Personal management: effective organisation, involvement and procedure. - Development: practical ability, concept translation and employment, awareness 30%
Semester Assessment Assessed participation and individual contribution to the creation and presentation of a tutor-led examination class. This work will be assessed against the following criteria: - Contribution: attendance, punctuality, engagement and proactive involvement - Personal management: effective organisation, involvement and procedure. - Presentation: practical ability, concept translation and realisation, awareness 40%
Semester Assessment Working notebook / reflective journal. Notebooks will be assessed against the following criteria: - Research: evidence of personal study and an awareness and understanding of context. - Development: evidence of exploration and individual development; of lateral thought; integrity, originality and creativity of individual ideas. - Communication: effectiveness as an instrument for the documentation and communication of ideas. - Form: appropriate, efficient and imaginative use of media employed. 30%
Supplementary Assessment Assessment 3 may be re-submitted. Failure of Assessment 1 would necessitate 1 x 1,500 word essay, involving critical assessment of the individual demands and skills necessary for the successful conduct of practice in Performance Studies. Failure of Assessment 2 would necessitate 1 x 2,000 word essay in the form of critical assessment of the individual demands and skills necessary for the successful completion of production in Performance Skills. 

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
Recognise a range of performance methodologies within specified practices

Demonstrate awareness and experience of these methodologies within the process of individual practical investigation

Employ personal skills and awareness within the development of personal practice

Reflect critically upon the process and outcome of a practical investigation

Aims

Content

The module offers a series of classes on practical training methodologies, supported by performance viewings, video showings and tutor-led research. Sessions will focus upon an initial introduction to a range of training practices, drawn from established and experimental practices in contemporary performance within an international context. Classes will introduce physical training methods and performance exercises, and examine the principles of presence and the performer.

Brief description

Students will be introduced to a range of practical procedures within the field of contemporary performance practice, through an exploration of training techniques. This initial examination will focus on the student'r understanding of these techniques within the context of their personal study: within the development of a personal skill base, and the generation of devised personal material. This module is compulsory for students registered for Performance Studies
