Intelligent Robotics Group

Robotics research at Aberystwyth was established around 1980 and since that time the group has undertaken innovative research in collaboration with a variety of industrial and academic partners in the U.K. and overseas.

Research areas

Space and Planetary

  • Flying robots
  • Beagle2

Biologically inspired

Motion analysis

Machine learning

Locomotion

Machine Vision

  • Appearance-based navigation
  • Registration of range images

Case studies

1) We are members of the Beagle2 consortium, and are involved in a number of activities, including Beagle2 robot ARM simulation, calibration, and mission support software tools.
2) Our work in robotic learning has produced applications for the food industry.  A demonstrator system can assemble sandwiches by being shown examples of the desired assembly.
