Learning Outcomes

Typically, upon completion of this module, students will be able to:

Formulate a research question with attention to what will be required in order to be able to answer it;
Carry out independent investigations appropriate to a topic and task chosen by themselves;
Critically evaluate the published work of others for its relevance to the topic and task chosen;
Clearly structure and present their findings in an extended piece of writing.

Aims

This module is designed to direct independent student research toward the completion of a 10,000 word dissertation through the development of research skills, writing and presentation skills, writing and presentation skills in an academic context.


Brief description

Students wil draw upon the research skills developed in the Research Methods (TF32410) to now formulate a clear and investigable research question. Under the guidance of a supervisor, they will carry out their investigaitons, and then present their findings in the written dissertation.
