Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
Recognise the importance of verbal and non-verbal communication in veterinary consultation and demonstrate these skills.
Develop basic clinical skills relating to clinical examination of prescribed species
Understand the importance of evidence-based veterinary medicine and it’s application to clinical veterinary practice
Demonstrate a systematic approach to working through bioethical problems using a model framework.
Be able to demonstrate how module content can be applied to clinical settings and how it integrates with other modules
Brief description
Principles of Veterinary Practice & Evidence Based Medicine runs throughout Year 2 and continues the themes covered in this strand in year 1 relating to communication in the veterinary field, professional standards, ethics and evidence-based decisions. This module will also develop practical clinical examination skills in a range of species. Additionally, students will learn more about the range of skills required for veterinary careers.
Content
Veterinary Surgeons require a range of professional skills to succeed in the wide range of jobs available throughout the field. This module continues students' professional development by providing further training in clinical skills and communication, discussing the ethical challenges in relation to the veterinary field and advancing understanding of how evidence-based veterinary medicine contributes to best-practice veterinary medicine. This will be achieved through problem-based group learning sessions, practicals and lectures.
