Responsibilities

Rex Berridge is the Head of the International English Centre, with overall responsibility for all English Language, International Pathways and TEFL teacher training and development courses in the University.

Research

Rex's research interests include phonetics and phonology, with specific reference to the phonology of English and of sub-saharan African languages.

Biography

Before joining Aberystwyth University in 1995, Rex had worked overseas for the British Council and the Overseas Development Administration for many years.  His previous working experience included international development posts in Jamaica, Malawi, the Sudan, the Congo and Zimbabwe, over a period of almost twenty years.  His work in curriculum development and materials design has contributed to the development of national curricula in a number of countries.  More recently he has travelled extensively in Asia and made many presentations in China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, Korea and other Asian countries.

Rex is a recent director and board member of EnglishUK, and a recent Chair of Learn English in Wales.

Additional Interests

Rex has substantial expertise in International Foundation and Pre-Masters Programmes and is working on the development of benchmarking criteria for use within the sector.  He has designed International Foundation and Pre-Masters Programmes for use in a number of countries, and has reviewed and critiqued many others.  He is currently moderator and external examiner for a number of programmes in England and Wales.
