Theses

Currently AU Libraries and the National Library of Wales receive from AU academic departments:

  • all successful research theses
  • all Master's dissertations on a Welsh subject
  • all Master's dissertations achieving a distinction

You may use the simple keyword search on the library catalogue, Primo  to search for any AU thesis: e.g. Irish thesis. All theses are kept in store and may be requested at the Hugh Owen Enquiry Desk. They may not be taken out of the library.

It is possible to borrow theses from other universities outside Wales through Inter-Library Loans. The British Library also offers an Electronic Thesis Online Service available at http://ethos.bl.uk/Home.do.

Additionally, Aberystwyth University’s online repository - CADAIR – contains electronic full-text versions of successful theses, Master’s, MPhil’s and MSc’s.

We have access to the Index to Theses accepted for higher degrees by the Universities of Great Britain and Ireland on the web. To access this from any pc in a computer room, use the direct Internet address http://www.theses.com or connect via the "eLibrary" from Primo:

The printed version of this index is available on request from Store: Aslib Index to Theses accepted for higher degrees by the Universities of Great Britain and Ireland and the Council for National Academic Awards. We hold the printed volumes covering the years 1950 - 1992, 1997 to 2006.

For theses on Celtic studies, or for theses written in Welsh, see: Welsh language and Welsh dissertations, 1887-1996 : Traethodau ymchwil Cymraeg a Chymreig, 1887-1996 / Alun Eirug Davies. A reference copy is held in the Thomas Parry Library. Two earlier versions of this work, covering 1887-1971 and 1972-1980, are also held in Hugh Owen Library at Z2081.D2.
