Theses

Currently AU libraries, the National Library of Wales and the Aberystwyth Research Portal, receive from AU academic departments:

  • All successful research theses

and also stock pre 2013 Taught Master’s:

  • theses on a Welsh subject
  • theses achieving a distinction

For print theses:

You may use the simple keyword search on the Primo the Library Catalogue to search for any AU thesis: e.g. Irish thesis. They are available for reference use only.

The collection is located on Level F of the Hugh Owen Library and in the Physical Sciences Library. Some theses are located in the external store and are accessible by placing a request through Primo the Library Catalogue.

For electronic theses:

You can search the Aberystwyth Research Portal for theses either in the general search box or by browsing the postgraduate publications community. Aberystwyth Research Portal records do not necessarily provide full text access, for theses, this might be because a thesis has a temporary embargo on open access (embargo conditions and date of availability can be found by clicking on 'Show Full Item Record'), or a permanent embargo due to issues of copyright or sensitive information, for example.

AU theses records and full text theses are also harvested by the British Library Electronic Thesis Online Service which harvests theses from across the UK.  Full text versions are available by registering with the service at http://ethos.bl.uk/Home.do.Theses that are not available full text can be requested through Document Supply.

For theses on Celtic studies, or for theses written in Welsh, see, Welsh language and Welsh dissertations, 1887-1996 : Traethodau ymchwil Cymraeg a Chymreig, 1887-1996 / Alun Eirug Davies. A copy is held in the External Store.

Other theses from Welsh universities are deposited at the National Library of Wales, National Library of Wales
