Aber Card
Your Aber Card is an important resource giving you access to a range of facilities and services including:
- library borrowing
- 24 hour computer rooms
- printing and photocopying
- the Student Union
- the University Sports Centre (separate payment required)
- the purchase of food in the University's hospitality outlets
The Aber card carries your student or staff number, your photograph, your user category and a limited amount of digital information, including a barcode for use with the University systems.

Applying for a card
All current Aberystwyth University students and staff members are entitled to an Aber Card. To ensure that your Aber card is ready for you when you arrive on campus you will need to apply for it at least a week in advance.
- Students who have activated their University email account can apply online for their Aber card by uploading a digital photo to their student record.
(Students who have already completed and returned a paper registration card do not need to do this.) - Students who have not yet activated their University email account, or who are unable to upload a digital photo for any reason can apply for an Aber card by completing an Aber card application form, attaching a passport sized photo and returning it to our Customer Services Team.
- Separate arrangements are made for students from the School of Education and Lifelong Learning.
- Staff can apply for an Aber card by completing an IS Registration Card, available from the Hugh Owen Library, attaching a passport size photo and returning it to the Customer Services Desk in the Hugh Owen Library.
For further information on other categories of users who may be granted access to an Aber Card and library facilities, please see Access to Information Services. In the case of non-registered or external users it may be necessary to provide further verification of applicants details and here IS undertakes to produce new user cards with 48 working hours of the initial application if clearance is given.

The Aber Card will be needed every time you:
- borrow a book, either from the Issue Counter or Self Issue Machines in the Libraries

In using your card for printing and photocopying you must ensure that you comply with the University’s Copyright Agreement
