Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module, students should have attained a knowledge of events in Spain on current affairs. Students will be encouraged to develop their own perspectives on relevant issues and contribute their ideas, in Spanish, accordingly. Students will have been able to use this course as a forum for expression and debate in the target language and will have developed confidence and fluency in discussing current affairs and many of the most relevant and controversial aspects of politics, social and legal affairs currently happening in Spain.

Brief description

This module, conducted in Spanish, offers a thematic exploration of current affairs in contemporary Spain. The four themes present a variety of perspectives on legal, political and cultural issues. Introductory lectures provide a background of information and will guide students towards an investigation of breaking news. They will be expected to contribute extensively to the seminars and debates which will also be conducted in Spanish. Students will have to search for further material allied to the themes studied in the national and regional newspapers.

The exam will be in the target language (2 hours written). The mark of the written exam and the continuous assessment will be equally based on content and language.
