Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
Demonstrate an advanced understanding of critical approaches to space and place in a range of visual forms.
Evaluate and synthesize complex ideas drawn from seminars and reading in the composition of conceptual and creative outcomes.
Produce insightful critical analyses of a range of film texts.
Brief description
Firmly rooted in Aberystwyth, but addressing global issues, this module will utilise the local landscape to introduce students to theories of representation relating to space and place. Exploring film and television texts (both documentary and fiction), but also myths, novels, poetry, visual art, postcards and popular music, the module will encourage students to think critically about what it means to represent a place. Through a combination of screenings, seminars and weekly field trips, physically exploring the local landscape will form a core part of the module and will provide students with opportunities to respond creatively and critically to their locatedness in the landscape.

To encourage students to respond critically and creatively to these concepts and places.
