Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

Demonstrate an understanding of assessing and measuring livestock welfare

Demonstrate an understanding of some of the complex impacts that internal and external pressures can have on welfare practices

Brief description

An introduction to the measurement of welfare in the ruminant and monogastric sectors and an exploration of how this could be improved.

Content

Through a series of online lectures, guided reading and quizzes, students will explore:
• How livestock welfare is assessed and measured
• The impact of nutrition on livestock health, welfare and production efficiency
• Using assessment as a tool for improving livestock welfare
