Do I have to take an English Language ability test?
If you are from a non majority English speaking Country, you must provide satisfactory evidence that your command of the English language, both spoken and written, is adequate for the programme of study for which you have applied before you can be firmly accepted to study at Aberystwyth. This includes, if you’re from a Country where English is not an official language or your first language is not English.
Every student must be able to understand rapidly spoken English, as well as speak and write English, otherwise lectures, seminars and practical classes will be difficult to follow. Use of the library and success in examinations also depends upon a good knowledge of the language. Dissertation and theses must be written in either English or Welsh. For further information on our requirements, please see the English Language Requirements page.
