Minister launches £4.9m oats study

The Quoats project is being led by Dr Athole Marshall at IBERS.The Deputy First Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones AM at the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show, officially launched a major new study led by Aberystwyth University to develop improved varieties of oats.

Research effort to combat liver fluke

Aberystwyth University is part of a £1 million international research effort to combat liver fluke – a parasite which causes disease in livestock, resulting in billions of pounds in losses every year to farmers around the world.

In search of a greener biofuel 

The Grassohol project is focusing on sugar-rich varieties of perennial ryegrass, developed at Aberystwyth University’s Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences, as a raw material for producing bio-ethanol.
