In December 2007, Professor Wheeler acted as an academic facilitator at the Women in Security, Conflict Management and Peace (WISCOMP) sixth Annual Conflict Transformation Workshop in New Delhi.

 

DDMI Co-hosts Nuclear Symposium in London

The DDMI co-hosted with the Oxford Research Group (ORG) a Symposium at the Royal Society entitled ‘Nuclear Futures – Realities and Choices.’ The Symposium marked the 25th Anniversary of the ORG’s work on nuclear weapons, and also honoured the work of its chief nuclear consultant Dr Frank Barnaby.

 

Professor Nicholas J. Wheeler in Caernarvon The Wales Peace Festival

As part of the public dissemination activities of the DDMI, Professor Wheeler was invited to speak on the issue of trust at the 2007 Wales Peace Festival. Other participants included, Mabon Ap Gwynfor, who spoke about the tradition of peace in Wales; Patrick Magee, a former member of the IRA involved in the Brighton Hotel bombing of 1984 and Jo Berry whose father was killed in that explosion.

The DDMI co-hosted a research workshop with the Security Research Group of the Department of International Politics. The event featured presentations by a number of eminent practitioners and research students on the subject of the ‘Nuclear Security Dilemma in Northeast Asia’, a key research area of the Institute.
