Davies Paper on Food and Water Security Conference now available

Davies Paper - Africa Series #4 is now available. This Davies Paper revisits and reviews the three-day international food and water security conference partly funded and organized by the DDMI. The conference was entitled 'The Human Dimensions of Climate Change: the Politics of Food and Water Security in Africa.' Generous financial and other support was also provided by C3W, IBERS, the Department of International Politics, and Aberystwyth University.

 

Davies Papers - Africa Series #3 ready for download

The DDMI is pleased to announce the release of the 3rd paper in the Africa Series of The Davies Papers. The paper is written by Daniel E. Agbiboa, doctoral candidate at the University of Oxford, and is entitled 'The Westgate Terrorist Attack and the Transformation of Al-Shabab: A Global Jihadist Perspective.'

 

DDMI 'Past Publications' page Updated

07 April 2014

Reorganisation of the DDMI Archives uncovered some long-lost publications from when the Institute was still independently based on Chatwick Street in central London. What was found is the entire run of the DDMI 'Occasional Papers' Series, Nos. 1-12. The author, titles, and other details of these papers have been added to the 'Past Publications' page of the DDMI website.

On 22 March 2014, the E.H. Carr Student Conference was held for the second time in the Main Hall of the International Politics Department at Aberystwyth University. The conference is student-organised and led. This year’s topic, ‘The Arab-Israeli Conflict’ and the event itself attracted a large number of attendees. Report summarizing the latest two DDMI events are now available. The first is the proceedings of the 2014 DDMI Annual Lecture, held on 27 February 2014. The second is the guest lecture by Amb. Richard Butler on the disarmament of Iraq, held on 10 March 2014.

Interpol and the DDMI were proud to host a special guest lecture by Amb. Richard Butler entitled 'Iraq Was Disarmed: the invaders didn't find any WMD because there weren't any to find'. Butler is a distinguished Australian diplomat and recognized expert in nuclear arms control and disarmament. Butler's lecture took place on Monday, 10 March, in the Main Hall, International Politics Building. Vidcast of Monday's lecture now available!

 

Carr Student Conference 2014: The Arab-Israeli Conflict

DDMI Annual Lecture - Professor Rosemary Hollis

Professor Rosemary Hollis is a leading analyst of Middle Eastern affairs.  She is presently Professor of Middle East Policy Studies and director of the Olive Tree Programme at City University London. She delivered her lecture, ''Britain and the Palestine Question, 1914-2014,'' in the Main Hall of the International Politics Building on 27 February 2014. The vidcast of her lecture is now availalbe.

 

Event Reports - Davies Forum #6 and Iain Wilson Guest Lecture

Report summarizing the latest two DDMI / IPRG events are now available. The first is the proceedings of the 6th Davies Forum on Germany's new coalition government, held on 6 December 2013. The second is the guest lecture by Iain Wilson interpreting international politics as a Darwinian evolutionary process, held on 7 February 2014.

 

Gift of Historic Books from E.H. Carr Prof. Ian Clark

Recently retired E. H. Carr Professor Ian Clark has donated to the DDMI a substantial collection of rare books by past masters. Click above to access the book list, selected book covers from the collection, and in a few cases personal inscriptions in books authored by Lord Davies. Some of these books could be made available for study - please contact us to discuss arrangements. The DDMI would like to thank Professor Clark for his generosity.

The DDMI and IPRG was pleased to welcome back Interpol alum Dr Iain Wilson. His guest lecture was entitled "Do states sneeze? Interpreting International Politics as a Darwinian evolutionary process." His lecture took place in the Main Hall of the International Politics Building on Friday 7 February 2014.

The Davies Paper - Africa Series No.1 is by Dr Essien D. Essien, University of Uyo, Nigeria. The paper examines Nigerian civil society and the extent to which it can further socially inclusive sustainable development in Nigeria.
