Ian Hopwood will give a talk entitled "The Challenge of Aid Effectiveness: A Practitioner's Perspective" and then answer questions in the Meetings Room of the International Politics Building, Aberystwyth University, Monday 25 October, in the Meetings Room at the Department of International Politics

Short biography: Ian Hopwood became a top official with UNICEF in New York, specialising, among other things, in the health sector in Africa. He still has a base in Senegal where he works and volunteers, as well as in Washington. He has worked in several southern Africa states as UNICEF representative and etc.

He has also specialised on the social consequences of economic reform. For a flavour of his views, see his chapter in the book edited by Prof. Ken Booth, Director of the DDMI, entitled Statecraft and Security (1998). He is especially keen to meet people working on health, Africa and development.
