Israel and the Nuclear Deal with Iran

26 October 2015

On Wednesday, 7th October 2015, the David Davies Memorial Institute of International Studies hosted an hour-long discussion with Mr Yiftah Curiel, Head Spokesman at the embassy of Israel in London. Mr Curiel addressed Israel’s position towards the recent Iranian nuclear deal. After briefly providing background on the issue of nuclear technology and its usage as weaponry, Mr Curiel introduced Israel’s key reservations towards the agreement between the P5+1 and Iran. He also spoke about the deal’s short- and long-term implications for Israel and its security. For this purpose, Mr Curiel embedded his arguments in the broader context of recent events in the Middle East, such as the civil wars in Syria and Yemen. Subsequently the audience engaged in a lively, but friendly, round of questions, bringing together academic and Israeli domestic and foreign policy perspectives. The event was well attended and we would like to thank Mr Curiel for taking his time to visit the DDMI and the Department of International Politics.
