Aberystwyth University Estates Department

08 February 2012

Aberystwyth University has today, Wednesday 8th February, announced plans to re-structure its Estates Department, following an internal review.

The University has ambitious plans for the development of its estate to improve the student experience. The proposed changes reflect these plans and the need for greater flexibility in the way repair and maintenance services are provided.

The University is now engaging in a consultation process with staff and trade unions about the proposals. If the restructuring process proceeds in the way currently envisaged, the University anticipates a net loss of 6 posts.

Rebecca Davies, the Pro Vice Chancellor with responsibility for Student and Staff Services said: “Six months ago, the University undertook a review of the Estates Department to consider its future shape and direction. Following the completion of the review, the University is now embarking on a programme of restructuring that is designed to improve the overall service it provides.

“The University is engaged in a programme of consultation with staff and unions. The proposed changes in working practices may lead to the loss of 6 posts, which we greatly regret. We will do everything possible to mitigate the effects on individuals and will offer them a range of existing supporting strategies such as voluntary severance and early retirement schemes.”
