Glesni Haf Jones is the winner of the Drama Medal at this year’s National Eisteddfod in Denbighshire.
Originally from Mold, Glesni graduated from Aberystwyth University in Welsh and Drama. She now works with Beaufort Research in Cardiff.
With 13 entries in the competition this year, one of the judges Geraint Lewis said “The dramatist has a talent for writing in a theatrical form to communicate feelings and emotions in a griping way.”
Glesni’s work, “Dwr Mawr Dyfn (Big Deep Water), talks about a young woman, Tryweryn, who is about to marry a man much older than herself. She and her only friend go on her hen night to visit her father in Liverpool, the main location for the drama.”
Dr Jamie Medhurst, Head of Theatre, Film and Television Studies at Aberystwyth University congratulated Glesni, “The department is thrilled once again this year with the achievements of one of our alumni. Glesni’s success follows that of Bedwyr Rees last year, we are absolutely delighted.”
