Strategy Implementation

Planning supports the University Executive and the Institute Executives in strategy development, through providing data analysis, forecasting and strategic planning support.  But strategic plans are worth very little if an organisation fails to implement them!  To help support strategy implementation, Planning is developing the following tools:

a)      Institute Strategy Implementation Template (operational plans).

b)      Specific university-wide action plans – such as NSS Improvement, League Tables.

c)       Support in aligning SITs and operational plans for our professional services.

Strategy implementation has two main strands:

  • Deciding the actions you need to take to implement strategy – for instance, what specific action are you going to take to increase research income, and making sure that the actions are actually done - in this example, submit 10 grant applications;
  • Measuring, using internal and externally comparable data, to make sure that the actions you have taken have actually had an effect; in the case above, did the grant applications actually generate income?  How did our success compare to other universities?

Planning supports this measurement by the provision of a wide range of Key Performance Data, at university, institute and department level.

Planning supports strategy implementation through our designated partners.
