Ian is co-chief of the Teaching for Postgraduates at Aberystwyth University programme (TPAU). TPAU is designed to develop the teaching skills of Postgraduate Researchers who are already teaching in their departments, giving them a grounding in the good practice of teaching and expanding their knowledge and expertise in a range of core teaching areas. TPAU is accredited through the Higher Education Academy (HEA) at Associate Fellowship level. Those who complete TPAU become Associate Fellows of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA). Ian is also happy to mentor PGRs and staff who wish to achieve Fellowship through the ARCHE Scheme.
Ian is Primary Contact for the Jisc Online Surveys system. He is Survey Officer for the national HE researcher surveys run at Aberystwyth: PRES and CEDARS. He is also a consultant and carries out training in the use of the Online Surveys system.
Ian is responsible for the design and organisation of the Aberystwyth Researcher programme. This is a unified skills and development provision, focussed on the needs of early career researchers, including research staff and postgraduate researchers - in line with AU's HR Excellence in Research award, the Concodat to Support the Career Development of Researchers, and the Researcher Development Framework.
