Critical Commentary in Practice-Based Research

PGM6510

This module may be useful at different stages for practice-based researchers in the Arts and Humanities. While there are recommendations within fields of practice, there are no fixed guidelines as to how a “critical commentary” should be structured, as it depends very much on the internal logic of your creative work and how you developed it. There is also the question of timing: how much creative work do you need to do before you can write a reflexive account of the theoretical underpinnings to your creative methods and practice? Your commentary will also need to identify ways in which your work makes a contribution or series of contributions to the field, at the same time as formally acknowledging its influences? The module will include a series of seminars, workshops and discussions where each participant is able to explore their own processes.
