Learning Object Repository Policy

The Learning Object Repository [LOR] allows us to create items centrally for colleagues to copy into their courses and organisations. LOR items can be updated, applying changes to content items across all courses and organisations.

https://help.blackboard.com/Learn/Administrator/SaaS/Tools_Management/LOR

The LOR is ideal for standardised content that is required across many courses. For example:

  • Standard items to be included in courses
  • Policies
  • Support information
  • Generative AI statements
  • Skills guidance and support

To help manage the quality and number of LOR content, we have developed the below standards. The creator of the content has responsibility to ensure that these standards are met. If you have any questions about the LOR, please contact us (elearning@aber.ac.uk).

Creating content

  1. LOR content must be
    1. Created as a document in a Practice Organisation Available as separate Welsh and English documents, or a bilingual document
    2.  Ensure a bilingual document follows the AU Welsh Language Standards with Welsh appearing in the same size font and above or to the left of the English. The 2-column layout in Blackboard documents can help with this.
    3. Fully accessible with an Ally score of 100%.
    4. Designed for use by a large number of Blackboard courses (for example by all staff in a department). We may decline to add content that will only be used by a small number of staff or courses.
    5. Copyright compliant
  2. We strongly recommend that all content should be:
    1. Written in plain English / Welsh.
    2. Designed to require as few changes as possible – we will not accept content that requires regular, planned updates. Where possible link to the single authoritative source for information rather than copying text into a LOR item.
    3. An email address should be included in the item in case users have any questions or a link to an online resource with further information (including point of contact)
    4. LOR items can be copied to courses but cannot be edited by staff; items are not suitable to be used as templates.

Requesting to add content

  1. All requests should be sent to elearning@aber.ac.uk
  2. The request should provide the details of their Practice Organisation and the name and location of the item to be added.
  3. The LTEU may refuse to add content if similar material is already in the LOR. We will let you know if there is similar material available.
  4. All LOR items should have named contact primary and secondary contacts who will be responsible for review and dealing with questions / complaints (one of these could be a departmental email address)

Changing content

  1. All requests for changes sent to elearning@aber.ac.uk with details of new English and Welsh text. Changes won’t be made to one language without the other (unless there is an error in one of the languages)
  2. All requests for changes will be processed in 3 working days. If your change is required by a certain date, please be aware of this timescale

Reviewing content

  1. All items must be reviewed annually during the summer. We reserve the right to remove content which hasn’t been reviewed.
  2. We will monitor usage of LORs and liaise with content owners if the item has not been used in the previous year to check if it is still required.

Dealing with complaints and queries

  1. LTEU is not responsible for content created by other staff
  2. Any complaints or questions will be sent onto the named content for the content.
  3. LTEU reserve the right to remove or make content unavailable until complaints can be resolved
