Monika Lauber MSc Equine Science

Sales Executive Mocap Ltd.

"Having worked as a head and competition groom for an international event rider for 4 years, I decided to finally give university a go when the first BSc Equine Science course in Austria, Vienna got enrolled. As the options for a postgraduate degree were very limited at home, I turned to friends in the UK for advice on a suitable course and university for my needs. Everyone I spoke to, but mainly Sarah Philips former event director of Blair Castle Horse Trials and now Senior Manager at the British Horse Society recommended the MSc in Equine Science at Aberystwyth.

Choosing a university in a different country and taking a course in a foreign language brings up some worries, but all the staff at Aberystwyth University made the enrolling process as easy as possible and the support for foreign and home students throughout the course is second to none. During my time at Aberystwyth I was able to improve my scientific writing skills as well as my presentation and research skills, while keeping in touch with the latest up to date findings in the equine world, as the University regularly organised seminars with experts in their respective fields.

From this course I moved on to work for Charles Owen, an international manufacturer for equestrian safety wear who puts a lot of effort into researching how to continually improve their live saving products. After having spent pretty much my whole life in the equestrian industry I took a break two years ago and accepted an offer I couldn't refuse, outside the industry. But I'm still enjoying horses in my spare time and would think that they move back into my work life at some point."
