Brief description

This module will provide a detailed consideration of the development of criminology as a discipline. It will map out and explore movements in thinking, why they arise and become powerfully accepted and how they fall into disrepute. It will explore the major themes such as individual as opposed to structural theories and determinism and free choice in their historical context. It will also introduce students to historical sources, how to use them and problems with their use.
