On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
Review literature on a specific topic in the non-computing domain to identify the principal contemporary issues placed within the content of the prevailing theories and concepts of the (sub) discipline.
Complete a substantial piece of computing work, under the direction of supervisors but demonstrating self-discipline, organisation and initiative;
Demonstrate an ability to gain expertise in a particular area of study largely through directed study;
Produce a critical appraisal of their work, evaluating all aspects of their approach.
This module provides a framework for bringing together both subjects in a single project, where the student builds a computing application in the domain of the other subject, or uses knowledge from the other domain to solve a computing problem.
Various written material giving guidance on carrying out the project, assessment issues, and the project submission is provided by the department. Students are expected to spend perhaps ten hours in an average week on the project and to see their supervisors in both departments regularly. This course is assessed on technical achievement, as evidenced by an interim report, a formal project demonstration, and a substantial written report.
