Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of play to children's social, emotional and cognitive development.
Apply gender and cultural perspectives to case studies or observations of children's play.
Critically evaluate different approaches to therapeutic play.
Form coherent arguments about of the ways in which children's play can be supported, including though the student's own practice and through social policies.
Demonstrate a competent use of relevant source material.
Brief description
This course investigates how and why children play. Understanding play can help parents, carers and people working with families to support children's learning and social development.
The course examines how play contributes to children's development; different kinds of play; and approaches to supporting and intervening in play, including through play therapy.
