The following areas of law are covered:

  • introduction to the English Legal System (including an examination of the relationship between civil and criminal law) and the interrelationship of domestic and European Union Law and the international context
  • concepts in Contract Law
  • principles of Employment Law
  • the Law of Business Organisations - sole traders, partnerships, companies
  • duties and liabilities of company directors and partners
  • aspects of the law relating to business finance

Brief description

This single module course assumes no previous study of law. The course is aimed at meeting the needs of students who wish to gain an understanding of some of the main legal issues which affect business managers. The course is designed to stimulate a student's understanding of both the practical and theoretical aspects of the subject and is fashioned to encourage the attainment of legal skills and knowledge. The forum for debate and argument is very much alive within this subject and it is a fundamental aim of the course to promote independent thought.
