Learning Outcomes

Typically, upon completion of this module, students will be able to:

Formulate a research question with attention to what will be required in order to be able to answer it;
Carry out independent investigations appropriate to a topic and task chosen by themselves;
Critically evaluate the published work of others for its relevance to the topic and task chosen;
Clearly structure and present their findings in an extended piece of writing.

Students will draw upon the research skills developed in the Research Methods to now formulate a clear and investigable research question. Under the guidance of a supervisor, they will carry out their investigations, and then present their findings in the written dissertation.

This module is designed to direct independent student research toward the completion of a 10, 000 word dissertation through the development of research skills, writing and presentation skills in an academic context.
