Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

* Analyse the importance of the leadership function in any management role or occupation;

* Demonstrate cognitive and analytical skills necessary to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of theoretical, empirical and experience-based approaches to leadership;

* Evaluate the consequences of bad, ineffective or negligent leadership;

* Demonstrate ability to develop the particular traits and qualities required in order to be an effective strategic leader;

* Evaluate how leadership influences organizational performance;

* Critically assess what a strategic leader can do to establish and emphasise ethical practices.

Aims

This module is designed to provide students with a broad introduction to some of the key concepts and strategic issues associated with leadership in a business context.

Brief description

The purpose of this module is to provide students with the knowledge, understanding and necessary skills to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of various approaches to leadership, and to develop the particular traits and qualities required in order to be an effective strategic leader. Students will also learn to demonstrate an understanding of how leadership influences organisational performance and ethical practices.
