Brief description

This module aims to examine the relationship between religion and politics in the Middle East and to analyze the compatibility of Islam with European modernity. It then examines the four case-studies of Iran, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Israel. It particularly explores the impact of these key issues on the development of the modern Middle East. The module concludes by examining the contemporary debates since 9/11 such the Islamic threat, the ‘clash of civilizations’, the Islamic ‘terrorism’ and the Kurdish Question.
