Brochure Text

You will notice that there are two versions of this module taught in ceramics (CA205) or thermalite (CB308), determined by the venues facilities. You can only enrol on one of these two courses.
Texture and Surface (Clay) CA205
Investigation into the textures and surfaces that surround us will be the starting point for your ideas and investigations which will be translated into clay outcomes. We will also explore more traditional responses to Ceramic Surfaces. An interesting course that will allow you to explore surfaces and effects.
Texture and Surface (Thermalite) CB308
This practical course is designed to give an introduction to the treatment of surface and texture as part of the visual diary and also with three-dimensional work. It will encourage experimentation with bas relief and frottage and you will learn to develop practical skills from maquette making to realise your ideas into final piece carved from thermalite. This course will be mainly practical but students will be encouraged to investigate historical and contemporary references. The course will be held at Neuadd Pantyfedwen, Pontrhydfendigaid but there will also be a visit to Strata Florida Abbey for inspiration.
