Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
1. Detail the anatomy of the female and male mammalian reproductive tract and explain the functions of the constituent parts.
2. Discuss the control of reproduction in the male and female.
3. Explain the role that the maternal system plays both during pregnancy and lactation in ensuring the successful production of offspring.
4. Describe the patterns of growth and development of the major tissues and organs from conception to maturity.
Brief description
This module will consider mammalian reproductive anatomy and physiology, and animal growth and development. Areas covered will include anatomy, function and control of reproductive activity in males and female including pregnancy and lactation. Patterns of growth and development of the major tissues and organs from conception to maturity will also be covered. The knowledge gained within this module can then be applied in subsequent subject specific, equine, livestock, companion animal modules.
Aims
To give an appreciation of comparative reproductive anatomy, growth and development so that this knowledge can be applied in subsequent subject specific, equine, livestock, companion animal modules.
