On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
1. to identify and use the main research resources that are available to software engineers;
2. constructively participate in advanced technical debate in the field;
3. have a general overview of the field of Software Engineering and be aware of focused areas of research interest within it;
4. produce a literature review (survey paper) on some current area of Software Engineering research
5. present current Software Engineering research at an appropriate level of detail to a technical audience.
This module focuses on current issues in the field of Software Engineering. The module will involve students in an examination of current research literature of interest to software engineers.
Sessions given by staff will include basic research training, covering topics such as finding and citing sources from the literature, writing a literature review and giving a poster presentation.
Students will be expected to give a poster presentation and to write a literature review. The poster presentation will be worth 25% of your mark and the literature review (survey paper) will be worth 60% of your mark.
