Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
demonstrate fundamental skills in the various processes of drawing and/or painting
work in a number of different media from memory and from observation (drawing and/or painting)
make an informed and personal response within the confines of a prescriptive brief, and be able to articulate that response, both in terms of their their own work and that of others
work towards prescribed briefs and deadlines
demonstrate an approach that is interdisciplinary or multi-media in conception (interdisciplinary studio practice)
evidence a self-critical approach to artwork
demonstrate knowledge of the creative potential of working in acrylic and oil paint (painting)
demonstrate fundamental skills in the processes of darkroom photography
produce a small portfolio of photographic prints
Content
WEEKS 1-5: I hour lecture followed by a 3-hour practical drawing class covering:

Week 4: Drawing with Ink
Week 5: Drawing with Paint
WEEKS 1-5: 3-hour interdisciplinary making class (seminars, group workshop and presentations) followed by an hour of tutor-led study time:

Aims
This module, in conjunction with AR10920 Art Practice C, aims to give Joint Honours students the technical understanding and self-knowledge necessary for entry into Part 2.
Brief description
This is a Level 1 introductory module to the theories and techniques of Drawing, Interdisciplinary Studio Practice (ISP), Painting and Photography. Joint Honours students must choose ONE of Drawing OR ISP and then ONE of Printmaking OR Life Studies. (Subject to the timetable, Joint Honours students may if they wish attend the classes of one or two of the other options as an extra-curricular activity.)
