On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
1. Apply safe working practices in practical situations and describe relevant health and safety requirements
2. Plan and cost practical projects in the countryside;
3. Maintain hand tools;
4. Demonstrate practical competence in a range of estate skills;
5. Read maps and navigate accurately with a map and compass;
6. Show an awareness of the role of practical management in a sustainable rural environment.
The module aims to develop practical skills, map reading, teach safe working practices and health and safety issues, essential tool maintenance and to give experience of project management and costing.

|Practical sessions will require measuring and calculating for construction and the project costings.
|Listen effectively in lectures, briefing sessions and on field visits. Write for different purposes and audiences through the write up of project plan and costings.

|Students will be able to review and monitor their progress in undertaking a range of practical estate skills and plan for improvement of personal performance.

|Students will gain confidence in their ability to undertake a wide range of practical estate skills in preparation for the work experience placement that is a core and integral part of their scheme.
