Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
1. Know the requirements when planning farming businesses.
2. Construct fully detailed farm business plans (including financial statements).
3. Be aware of the effects of different trading structures.
4. Appreciate the informational requirements of financial institutions in lending assessments.
5. Evaluate and apply investment decisions.
Brief description
This module will provide an understanding of business planning techniques. These techniques will include business and personal aspects, uncertainty and risk analysis and business distress and failure. Alternative structures for farming businesses will be examined and investment appraisal will also be covered.
Content
The module will cover an understanding of the requirements of business planning, alternative planning techniques, alternative business trading structures and entities, investment appraisal, business finance distress and failure, aspects of business taxation, and the role of the Farm Business Survey in comparative analysis and benchmarking.
