On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of growth and development theories and critically evaluate them.
2. Demonstrate an understanding of the development needs of poorer states, and assess the growth and development strategies available to them.
3. Analyse and explain the on-going debate on the trade-off between economic growth and sustainability at a global level.
4. Demonstrate an ability to anticipate the consequences of development for environmental sustainability.
5. Formulate proposals at the corporate, governmental and intergovernmental levels for actions to facilitate sustainable development of developed and developing countries.
This module examines the nature of the economic development process, its causes, and consequences, in particular the associated major problems of inequality, unsustainable development, environmental degradation as well as the policy solutions to address these problems.
