On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
1. effectively communicate, visually and in written form and in the public domain of the internet and social media and understand the important elements of promotion, design and execution in developing these portfolio skills
2. consider career possibilities and the steps required to achieve career goals, prioritize and plan schedules, and produce a career profile;
3. demonstrate an understanding of the practicalities of self-promotion, attracting and approaching galleries for exhibition, and appreciate the importance of business management related to art practice;
4. identify means of funding projects and appropriate funding bodies, developing an understanding of liaison with other artists, and the importance of networks and networking;
5. apply a process of self-analysis and self-reflection when assessing their own work.
Such vocation-oriented training encourages students to develop an ethos of professionalism as artists. You will be introduced to the public and commercial gallery systems, principles of exhibition origination and self-promotion, and using the internet and social media to develop and sustain a career as an artist. Students will learn by observation and interaction with practitioners as well as the application of knowledge through project work. You will produce visual materials and written documentation to promote yourself and your work. In addition, the module provides a forum to discuss problems and share solutions that are common to all students regardless of their fine art discipline.
