Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

Apply a problem-solving approach for the provision of a nutritional intervention to meet client adaptation goals.

Critically discuss the nutritional factors that may contribute to and influence optimal exercise performance.

Critically appraise the recommendations for appropriate nutrient requirements for a variety of sport and exercise activities.

Critically evaluate the role of nutritional supplements in the promotion of exercise adaptations.

Brief description

This module offers students the opportunity to study the role and relevance of sport and exercise nutrition in a more focused and applied manner. The module will focus on the use of nutritional strategies in both acute and chronic scenarios to maximise adaptation to training as well as before, during and after sport and exercise events. The module will examine the importance of individualising nutritional strategies for specific clients/athletes. The module will allow students to critically evaluate these factors and discuss how the use of the most effective nutritional strategy can influence sport and exercise performance.
