Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
Communicate information and ideas in the form of written reports and oral group presentations following the agricultural study tour of East England
Develop a reasoned argument and challenge assumptions.
Formulate hypotheses and research questions, undertake data collection, and make academic arguments.
Develop practical teamwork skills including administration, deadline setting and communication
Identify factors influencing production systems and assess their impact on business management and performance
Demonstrate an understanding of agricultural supply chains
Identify appropriate data sources and information resources
Instill appropriate academic conduct (e.g. avoiding unacceptable practice)
Interpret and use data.
Demonstrate basic computer literacy.
Brief description
The module is intended to prepare students with the key skills necessary for a successful academic and professional career such as time management, critical thinking and reflective learning. An important aspect of the module is an introduction to a range of research issues such as literature evaluation, data synthesis and assessment and oral, visual and written communication. The module content is delivered through a range of formats including lectures, workshops, e-learning and tutorials. In semester 2 students will attend a week long study tour in East of England, previously a part of BR1110. Following the visit the students will undertake a presentation which will help develop their group working and presentation skills.
Content
4 x 2 hour workshops which will cover core academic skills tailored to the scheme. 4 x 2 hour tutorial sessions across the semester which will compliment and support the workshops and provide an opportunity for 1 to 1 feedback on assignments.
Semester 2
4 x 2hour workshops which will cover specific agricultural skills and provide an opportunity to debrief students ahead of the study tour week. There will also be a workshop on employability/careers.
